Tracy McGrady signed a seven-year contract with the Orlando Magic in 2000 worth about $92.9 million. Early in that run, his wife CleRenda Harris told him to bring in an auditor to review the financial advisors he was already paying.
"My wife, she's on top of my business," McGrady revealed.
His reasoning for why it mattered: "You have these financial advisors. You don't know what they're doing, because there's so much money. You don't know what they're investing in. You don't know what money is being moved around."
And what it meant to him: "I never would have thought about anything like that. I was really just concentrating on my craft, just trying to be the best basketball player I possibly can be. And I had somebody on my side that was taking care of really important things so I could just concentrate on basketball. My wife was just, she was, you know, she's incredible."
Advisors manage the money. Somebody still has to check the advisors.
Would you let your partner audit your finances?
